Your Tenancy And Estate

Your Tenancy and Estate
A1 Housing is dedicated to provide quality homes and neighbourhoods, and to help us keep this promise to all of our tenants, we have a number of services that will help you with your tenancy and the estates you live in.

We have dedicated Neighbourhood Housing Officers who can deal with any issues you may have with your tenancy or estate, and Caretakers who help keep your estates looking clean, tidy and a pleasant place to live

Your Tenancy

When you become a tenant of A1 Housing there are two types of tenancy agreements - Introductory and Secure.

Introductory Tenants

If you are a new tenant you will be offered an Introductory Tenancy which lasts for 12 months. This is a probationary period to make sure that new tenants keep to the terms of their tenancy agreement. Introductory Tenants have fewer rights than Secure Tenants.

Should an Introductory Tenant not respect these terms, for example not paying their rent, causing anti-social behaviour or failing to keep the property clean and tidy, it is generally easier for A1 Housing to get the property back.

Secure Tenants

If there have been no problems during the first 12 months of your tenancy, you will automatically become a Secure Tenant.

By law a Secure Tenant has more rights to stay in their home and A1 Housing will have to provide evidence to the Courts to get the property back.

If you are a transferring from another social landlord and have no previous tenancy problems, you will be offered a Secure Tenancy. The rights and obligations of both an Introductory and Secure Tenant are detailed in our tenancy agreement.
