How are we equal and diverse?

Equality and Diversity spans a large cross-section of our services as well as everyday life for our tenants. Below is a brief explanation of just some of the ways we ensure that equality and diversity stays at the forefront of our organisation.

Hate Incidents

A1 Housing is committed to tackling hate incidents in any form and will deal with all incidents that you report to us thoroughly.
If you have suffered or are suffering from any form of hate incident such as offensive verbal abuse, physical threats or intimidation because of your age, disability, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or any other reason, please report this to us immediately.
You can speak to you Neighbourhood Housing Officer or other members of A1 Housing staff in complete confidence. If we cannot help, we will put you in touch with someone who can.

Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse is a very serious issue, which can affect anyone, anywhere, in any set of circumstances. This can be in the way of physical, emotional or financial intimidation.
Most domestic abuse is directed by men against women, but it can occur in other types of relationships, and is also carried out by women against men.
We work with a number of other organisations to support victims and their families of domestic abuse including; Bassetlaw District Council and other local authorities, the Sanctuary Scheme and Free From Fear - Nottinghamshire Domestic Violence Forum.
More information can be found on the Domestic Abuse and Hate Incident pages of this website.

Age

We aim to tailor our services so that they meet the needs of every generation of A1 Housing tenant.
Just a few examples of the diversity of our services include the introduction of a Facebook page and Young Persons Focus group for tenants under the age of 35, through to our Supported Housing service and the provision of the Lifeline service for elderly residents across Bassetlaw.
We also work closely with organisations such as FOYPIB, SureStart, schools, over 50's forum and Tenants and Residents Associations throughout Bassetlaw.

Religion and Belief

To improve how we deliver services to customers and employment issues for our staff there is an on-line information guide on religion and belief culture and practices please click here: Religion and belief information

Race

A1 Housing recognises that our community is made up of people from different ethnic backgrounds, with more recently the arrival of European migrant workers. As part of our commitment to providing safe and strong communities, we have developed services that will help people live in harmony with their neighbours.

Life Guide - Living and working in the UK

Depending on your background, you may find that getting used to life in the UK takes a little time. The following guides provide you with basic information about life in the UK and for living and working in Bassetlaw.

The Lifeguide is available in 19 different languages including English. To see the languages the booklet can be accessed in, please click the link here.

Gypsy and Travellers

A1 Housing is committed to ensuring fair access to services for all, this includes the Gypsy and Traveller community.
It is estimated that 85% of the Gypsy and Traveller community live in houses, even though their culture is nomadic.
As the Gypsy and Traveller community have suffered long standing discrimination, we have produced a guide to understand the issues they face. To access the guide please click here.

Gender

We promote equal opportunities throughout A1 Housing and will work towards eliminating discrimination regardless of if you are an employee, customer or partner organisation of A1 Housing.

Sexual Orientation

A1 Housing aims to eliminate discrimination for customers from the lesbian, gay and bisexual community.

To achieve this we:

  • Provide equal access to housing services for lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

  • Take action to help a lesbian or gay tenant who is experiencing homophobic abuse or harassment from other tenants.

  • As staff, treat lesbian, gay or bisexual users as courteously and professionally as they do other users.

  • Ensure that when developing a service, we take steps to ensure that lesbian, gay or bisexual people have fair access.

  • Monitor our services and employees by all the different diversity groups to make sure that our services do not discriminate or exclude customers or employees from the lesbian, gay and bi-sexual community.
