To be considered for a home you must register a housing application on our waiting list. Empty properties are then offered to the waiting list using a set of easy to understand rules so that everyone is treated fairly.
This section explains
The waiting list is open to anybody who would like a home with us and all you have to do is complete the housing application form and return it to us.
Preference is given to people who live or work in the Bassetlaw area and do not own a property.
If you are aged over 60 years of age senior citizen accommodation, including bungalows, flats and sheltered housing is open to all.
There are 3 sections to the waiting list.
How does the list work?
Properties are offered to the General List in date order of application, that is firstly to those applicants who have been waiting longest. You may also receive extra waiting time according to your specific circumstances to help you be rehoused more quickly. A copy of our policy, "Opening the Door", is in the download section.
What choice do I have?
All applicants have a choice of the type of property and where they want to live and you will only be offered properties in the areas you have chosen.
Although we have many flats, houses and bungalows, not every area has the full range of properties.
To help you choose where you want to live please go to the download section for more information on Properties and Waiting Times.
How do I apply?
Simply complete and return our application form which is available to download Please ensure you complete all the questions fully or we may have to return the form to you for more information.
When your application has been registered we will write to you giving you your unique reference number.
What happens next?
Once you are registered on the list we will do all the work! When a property comes empty we check the waiting lists and offer it to the next eligible applicant who is requesting it.
Every year we will write to you asking you to confirm that you still want rehousing otherwise we will take you off the waiting list.
How long will I have to wait?
How long you will wait depends on how many other people are interested in the same type of property and area, the number of properties the Council owns and how often these come empty. The waiting time will vary across the district and even within Worksop and Retford. The wider your choice of properties and areas the more likely it is that you will be rehoused more quickly.
