HomeFinder - Bassetlaw's Choice Based Lettings (CBL) Scheme

The traditional approach to allocating Council Houses is

  • applicants register an application for housing
  • the application is assessed and points awarded according to individual circumstances
  • vacant properties area allocated by Housing to the highest person on the waiting list at that time

Choice Based Lettings reverses this approach by placing the emphasis on the applicants

  • applicants register on a waiting list as above
  • vacant properties are advertised eg through the local press, housing offices, the internet
  • applicants bid for any property they are interested in
  • applicants who bid are ranked according to preset criteria and the offer made to the applicants ranked highest
  • only those applicants who bid are considered
  • results of the bids and allocation of the property are fed back so that applicants can choose their property with full details of previous vacancy

HomeFinder is Bassetlaw's CBL scheme and we have developed this through a Tenants and Applicants Working Group to ensure it meets the needs of local people.  The final consultation is now taking place and copies of the policy have been sent out to over 170 local stakeholders.  All the comments received will be considered to see if the Policy needs amending.

We would also like to receive your views and a copy of the Full Policy is available to down load by clicking on HomeFinder.  A copy of the letter to stakeholders can also be viewed.
