Transfers
If you are an existing A1 Housing tenant you can apply to be on the Housing Register and transfer to another A1 Housing property.
As a transfer applicant you have the same choice as all other applicants on the Housing Register. You may be eligible for higher priority if you are prepared to move to a smaller property.
Home Swapper
A mutual exchange is when tenants swap their properties by mutual agreement; you can do this through the HomeSwapper service.
HomeSwapper is for social housing tenants who want to swap their home, and an exchange is an alternative way of moving without waiting on the re-housing list.

Once you have found a possible exchange both tenants need to contact their landlord and ask for a Mutual Exchange application form.
You should not move until you have written permission from A1 Housing. You should also be aware of the following points:
- Both tenants must be prepared to accept each other's accommodation in its present condition.
- If more than one landlord is involved, approval will have to be given by each landlord.
- If you change landlord, it is important that you are fully aware of what your rights are. The terms of your tenancy may be different if you exchange with the tenant of a Registered Social Landlord or a different Council.
- Be sure of your rights before you go ahead with an exchange.
Can an exchange be refused?
The majority of exchanges go ahead quickly and without any problems. Unfortunately in a few cases permission may be refused, should this happen we will give you a written explanation of the reasons. This could be because:
- You or the other tenant is in rent arrears.
- A notice seeking possession of your property has been served on you.
- One of the properties would be under-occupied if the exchange took place.
- One of the properties would be overcrowded if the exchange took place.
