In the spring of 2004 Bassetlaw District Council tenants voted, with an 85% majority, for an arms length management organisation to take over the day to day management of the Council’s housing stock.

 

As a result of this vote Bassetlaw District Council created A1 Housing Bassetlaw Limited and in October 2004 A1 Housing was registered as a private limited company and officially took control of the stock.

 

A1 Housing is managed by a strategic Board of Directors made up of 15 members, 5 councillors, 5 tenants and 5 independents. Independent and tenant positions are held for 3 years and filled following a selection process. Bassetlaw District Council selects the councillor members of the Board and their length of service on the Board is at the Council’s discretion.

The district of Bassetlaw is situated in North Nottinghamshire at the crossroads of England between Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. The District of Bassetlaw covers almost 64,000 hectares. It has 2 main market towns, Worksop in the west and Retford in the east as well as numerous rural villages and hamlets.

 

Bassetlaw is well known for the Dukeries Estates and tourist attractions such as, Clumber Park and Mr Straws House.

 

The district hosts a population of approximately 108,500 people and has approximately 45,000 households.

A1 Housing manage over 7,000 properties, which remain in the ownership of Bassetlaw District Council and are situated across the whole of the Bassetlaw district.

Demand for properties is high with some areas having a lengthy waiting times.
